What an incredible day we’ve just spent at WordCamp Portugal! From the moment the doors opened, the energy at the venue was vibrant. It was wonderful to see our local community and international friends coming together to shape the future of the web.
The Focus: AI and Innovation
A massive theme this year was the impact of Artificial Intelligence. From José Freitas opening the morning with the F.A.C.E. method to Jorge Costa showing us how AI is becoming a part of the WordPress Core, it is clear that we are no longer just talking about the future—we are building it. Sessions on “Vibe Coding” and “Agentic Engineering” gave us a real look at how our roles as developers and managers are evolving.
Accessibility and Responsibility
It wasn’t all about the “shiny” tech. I was particularly inspired by the focus on accessibility. Anne-Mieke Bovelett and Milana Cap reminded us that the web must be inclusive by design. As we transition into a new era of open-source development, Simon Kraft’s insights on the Cyber Resilience Act provided a necessary reminder of our responsibilities as creators.
Business and Strategy
For the project managers and agency owners in the room, sessions regarding the “Agency Reset” and client management provided practical frameworks to take back to our teams on Monday. The workshops, including Ryan Welcher’s deep dive into the AI API, offered the kind of hands-on experience that makes WordCamp so valuable.
